33. Substance used as an anti-freeze in radiators of automobiles is :

(A) Methyl Alcohol & H2O
(B) Methyl Alcohol
(C) Ethyl Alcohol
(D) Ethyl Alcohol & H2O

Ans. (D) Ethyle Alcohol & H2O (Actually its Ethlyne Alcohol or Ethylene Glycol....didn't get the option)

Antifreeze is added to radiator to keeps your radiator fluid from freezing when it is very cold and keeps your car from overheating on very hot days. Antifreeze is commonly ethylene glycol and is designed to lower the freezing point and to raise the boiling point of the radiator fluids.

The trouble with water is that it freezes or boils at extreme temperatures. Anti-freeze ( ethylene glycol) can withstand much greater temperature extremes, so by adding it to water in a 50/50 mix we make a compromise. We retain most of the good ccooling ability of water but also get some some of the ability to withstand extreme temps from the anti-freeze.
